Day 6, Thursday, July 16, 2026
Having finished the medical and education missions portion of this trip, this was a day of transition. From the hiking to the top of the hill with the cross, to travel back from Danli to Tegucigulpa, to some time to see the sights of Honduras, it was a day to breathe in God’s grace and enjoy a beautiful country.
Hiking to the Cross on the Hill

Today, the team had an early morning start as they headed out at 6:30 AM to hike to the cross that overlooks Danli on the east side. Once they had tackled the 452-foot elevation change, they took a moment to breathe, to visit with each other. They then experienced God’s powerful presence as they gazed over the city of Danli from on high, and prayed for all the people they had met this week through their mission work and for the ongoing ministry of our partner church, Central UMC.
Experiencing and Seeing the Sights of Honduras

From there, the team packed up and rolled out to Tegucigalpa. As they made the 2-hour journey, they took time to reflect on how the first medical mission went and to take in the scenery, as today was the first day of full sunshine for an extended period of time. Once in “Teguc,” they arrived at the Mission House, where they dropped their luggage in their rooms and headed out to Valley of the Angels to share a wonderful lunch. After lunch, the team perused the local markets to find personal momentos to bring home so they can share the memories of their trip with family and friends.
On the way home, the team took a detour to Santa Lucia, a small town full of murals and enchanting cobbled streets. The group enjoyed the breathtaking panoramic view of the valley that Santa Lucia overlooks as the sun was setting. The team was realizing the importance of taking some space in the midst of a busy and fruitful week to breathe in God’s beauty, strength, and gift of joy.
From Santa Lucia, the team headed back to the Mission House for a wonderful dinner with some of the Mission House staff and for devotions. Each night, a team member leads the evening devotion, which often consists of a song, a reading, and the sharing of moments each team member saw God moving that day. During devotion time, they reflected on the ways the mission was not only benefiting others in profound ways, but the countless ways God is moving in new ways in their own lives.
